Science Week: Jan 26 - Jan 30
We will be having a booth in the SUB concourse. Come by and meet some of the nice people from all corners of the campus.
Birkam Yoga
Biweekly yoga sessions from Birkam Yoga in Room 215, at 5 pm. UBC Heart Club members get half price. Join us and get a good start on your New Year's resolution.
Short Term Volunteering Opportunity
The Province is doing a Resident Satisfaction Survey of all patients in Extended
Care Facilities. Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is doing this at VGH, UBC,
George Pearson, etc. Five facilities have already been completed in Vancouver
and we are currently training for those on the North Shore.
VCH intends that volunteers conduct all patient surveys. An outside agency has
been contracted to design the survey, train the interviewers and collate the
data. Volunteers participate in a two-day training session on a Saturday & Sunday,
10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Training Sessions will be held Feb 7/8, at Vancouver
General Hospital; and Feb 13/14, at the George Pearson Centre. Lunch will be
provided both days. Volunteers will learn interview skills and receive a
certificate. After this volunteers commit to interviewing 10 patients in a
designated care facility. The interviews should be completed in approx. 10
hours (the times which are flexible to meet both the needs of the patient and
the interviewer).
Eating Disorder Movie Night, Jan 28
The UBC Pre-Medical Society is proud to present a showing of the PBS documentry Perfect Illusions on Wednesday, January 28 2004 at 7pm in Wood 3. This documentry follows 3 women (including the other of Wasted) through their struggle with eating disorders. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Lee Kostalis-Thulin, director of ModoSano Counselling and Consulting in Vancouver. The even is free of charge and a great opportunity to learn more about eating disorders and their impact not only on sufferers but on friends and family as well.
